| [ | mood |
| | meditative | ] | Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. ~ Max Ehrmann
To me, these have long been words to live by. I have them on a large poster that hangs in my living room. |

| Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction |
[Nov. 16th, 2008|06:13 pm] |
This isn't really the kind of music I would normally listen to, but this song really struck a chord with me. I actually teared up a little. I think that the more people who hear this message, the better.
Thanks to hakatrip for the link.
We need to find courage, overcome Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction
My story stops here, lets be clear This scenario is happening everywhere And you ain't going to nirvana or farvana You're coming right back here to live out your karma With even more drama than previously, seriously Just how many centuries have we been waiting for someone else to make us free And we refuse to see That people overseas suffer just like we Bad leadership and ego's unfettered and free Who feed one the people they're supposed to lead I don't need good people to pray and wait For the lord to make it all straight There's only now, do it right. Cos I don't want your daddy, leaving home tonight |

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage Is Wrong
1. Being gay is not natural. And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts...
2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay. In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.
4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all. Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children. Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.
8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
Re-post this if you believe love makes a marriage. Vote NO on Proposition 8

| Song meme *baaaa* :P |
[May. 9th, 2008|08:14 pm] |
1. Open your music collection and set the songs to shuffle/random. 2. Take the first 30 and write one line from each. 3. As people guess the songs, strike them. 4. Tag up to five others to do this.
I'm not going to tag anyone, so just.... do it if you want to. |

You are The Star
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised
The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.
What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out.

| APOCALYPTICAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! |
[May. 4th, 2008|02:38 am] |
I found out just in time that Apocalyptica were going to be coming to town and bought a pair of tickets. Jeffrey had a gig, so I invited my sister Julianne (she is more of a fan of theirs than Jeffrey is, anyway), who was really excited about it. I thought the doors opened at 7, and we wanted to get something to eat first, so she was at my place by 5 and then we went from there.

| Back from vacation |
[May. 4th, 2008|02:11 am] |
So, after we got back from vacation, Jeffrey's family was in town. We spent the rest of the week doing things with them, which may sound like kind of a drag but it wasn't because Jeffrey's family are seriously the Sweetest. People. Ever! They're just so grateful for everything, and they adore me to pieces. And his son, Chris, kind of latched onto me and opted to go with me whenever we split up or did anything. He can be kind of fractious at times, and the last time we tried having him live with us it didn't work very well for a number of reasons, but there's still a bond between us, and I do love him dearly. And Jeffrey's sister is just one of the sweetest girls, and we went shopping together when she was staying with us before, watched chick flicks, squeed over boys on TV and in movies (she's a big Jensen Ackles fan - bigger than me, actually) and basically just had a really good time.
I was a little cranky at times, mainly due to being worried about money and not getting enough sleep (I was back to work, but also staying out late doing things with them) but mostly it was a good time.
Then they went home, and we brought Jeffrey's car in to have the brakes looked at, since they'd begun to scrape. Well, they were in bad shape and basically everything had to be replaced. So there went another $800. Yikes. Good thing I've been able to pick up overtime. But the highlight of last week was The Concert... Which I will post about next, because it TOTALLY needs its own entry. |

| Vacation recap! (No pictures) |
[Apr. 28th, 2008|03:02 am] |
Okay, okay, I know it's been a long time and everyone else has already posted their posts about Eyecon and all that, but I didn't even get home until a week afterwards, so I'm posting now. So there. :P
Overall, it was a super-awesome vacation, although my bank account is still recovering. It may be quite awhile before we can afford to do something like this again, although it was a lot of fun while it lasted. We visited friends in Georgia, went to Eyecon, did the touristy thing and went to Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Medieval Times and Seaworld (not in that order). A good time was (mostly) had by all. I will post pictures later, in a separate post. There's the summary; for those wanting to know more details, proceed to the cut of your choice.
( Celebrate good times, come on! )

( Tourism at its finest. )

| Yes We Can |
[Feb. 2nd, 2008|09:00 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | hopeful | ] | I have never before been one to get excited about politics or elections. Every election I've voted in up until now, I feel I'm being asked to choose the lesser of evils, and that the Good Ol' US of A is just circling the drain with nothing to save us from our fate. It's depressing sometimes.
For the first time, this year, there is a candidate that I can believe in. There is a man who talks about hope, and change, and for the first time in a long time, makes me believe that it is possible. When he speaks, people listen, and when he is done, you know you have heard the words of a Great Man. I believe in him not because he believes in his own greatness, but because he believes in OUR greatness; the greatness of our people as a united people. And I believe that things can change. We can change. Yes we can.

| *Baaaa* Album cover meme |
[Jan. 10th, 2008|10:42 pm] |
Everyone else is doing it, I thought it might be fun to do it too. Not because I like to follow the crowd, just because I thought it looked like fun. You'll have to forgive the graphics; at the moment all I have for a graphics program is paint.
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first article title on the page is the name of your band.
2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

I love how these things turn out sometimes. Isn't that awesome? The name sounds like it might be a death metal/cookie monster metal band, but the pic and the general feel of it make me think it's something a little more mellow, maybe almost folksy. Hmmm.
What do you think, would you buy it? :P |

| Moooooovin' on..... |
[Dec. 6th, 2007|09:26 pm] |
So. Had my Lasik done today. It went pretty fast, and my eyes are already feeling better. They offered me some Valium beforehand, which I did take because I was feeling nervous about it. Apparently, this was a mistake... my body does not like Valium. I spent the next three hours trying to sleep (they tell you to take a nap afterwards) but not being able to due to this little mini panic attacks that I kept having. It didn't relax me at all.
However... it's been about seven hours since I had the procedure, and I'm seeing about as well as I do with my contacts in. At times, its a little hard to focus, and I'm still seeing halos around lights and stuff, but that is all part of what they told me to expect, and that should go away after a little while. And I am glasses-less, which is really nice.
In other news, we've started moving our things over to the new place. We took pictures of everything before we started unloading, so I will probably be spamming you all with before and after pictures of the new place shortly. Most of the little stuff we've either got moved or in boxes. The last things we're moving are the computers and the TV, of course, heh.
Tomorrow, we're getting the Uhaul for the day to move the big stuff, including the storage locker that we will be able to clean out completely because we finally have enough room for all of it. Um, anyone who lives in the area have some free time tomorrow and would like to help us move? We'll treat with pizza and refreshments afterwards. |

Okay. I know this is a meme that's gone around before - or like a meme I've seen, anyway - but I'm too lazy to track it down right now, so I'm going to just start it, I guess.
Post a reply to this entry, and I will tell you why I love you. Feel free to post this in your own journal after that... or not. I'm just trying to spread a little love. |

| New community pimpage |
[Sep. 8th, 2007|01:47 am] |
All right. So I've been in a funk lately, and the only cure is.... well, not more cowbell. But I think more Supernatural can be good for anyone, right? I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a long time, but I finally got around to creating a new community. It's called deans_list_spn and it's basically for writing fanfiction about all the things Dean has on his list to do before he dies in a year. Sound interesting? I thought so. Come on over and join; we'll have a blast togethah! We need readers, writers, rec'ers and lots of general pimpage. Since Dean doesn't want to miss a moment, I think it will be an exciting year, don't you? |

Sorry I've been MIA lately. My computer decided this was the week to give me the finger, so Jeffrey's been trying to figure it out and fix it for me. I hope to be back up and running soon, but until then you may not see me much.
Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful birthday wishes! They made me smile. |

| Request for icons |
[Sep. 3rd, 2007|02:02 pm] |
Okay... I've been using the same icons now since I started this journal, and I think its high time I got some new ones. I'd love some fandom ones, and in general I really like snarky/humorous ones. I don't like to be a copycat, though. Anyone have some really awesome ones they'd like to rec? Alternatively, anyone want to make me some?
My birthday is on Wednesday, after all. *hint hint* Hee. |
